- Biomonitoring

- Stress metabolism

- Transcriptomics

- Phycology

My field of study is related to the effects of pollutants and environmental perturbations on the biology of organisms, especially primary producers at marine ecosystems. My research is focused mainly in macroalgae, and their responses to metal excess or stressors associated with Climate Change, in temperate and polar ecosystems. I study stress responses at different levels of biological organization, from metabolism at molecular and biochemical levels, to effects on the physiology and population and community structures. We also evaluate molecular and biochemical stress signals as potential biomarkers, which can be applied as biotechnology tools for the prediction, diagnosis and monitoring of environmental status.
